Come meet the authors who call California home. Here, California authors from a variety of genres will have books for sale and even sign them for their fans. Meet your favorite California author, or discover your next can’t-put-down read. Book subjects range from romance, mystery, children’s stories, science fiction and everything in between.
Brenda Novak’s Bookstream
After traveling nearly 13,000 miles around the country for THE SEASIDE LIBRARY Book Tour (which is the equivalent of going halfway around the world!), Brenda Novak’s Bookstream is coming to the California State Fair!
In this darling 1969 Globe Trotter Airstream, which has been renovated into a tiny bookstore, you’ll be able to purchase an autographed copy of New York Times bestselling author Brenda Novak’s newest release, THE SEASIDE LIBRARY, and/or pick up a variety of titles from her backlist (even some that are hard to find!), T-shirts, mugs, other bookish items and more! The reading nook in front of the Bookstream will be the perfect place to take a break from the heat and relax with your new book!
Meet the Authors
Denise Lee Branco is the multi-award-winning author of two books, whose passion is using her writing to highlight the human-animal bond and advocate for animal rescue. She is a member of several writing and publishing organizations and has been a contributor to thirteen anthologies.
Kathleen Cawley is a physician assistant, author, and mother of twins. She writes on parenting and childhood for the Auburn Journal and Folsom Telegraph. She has a keen interest in the emotional transition to parenthood, the social pressures on families, and the unspoken challenges of parenthood.
Sharon Darrow is an entrepreneur, business owner, award winning author, publisher, public speaker, and an expert in caring for neonatal orphan kittens. Her personal motto is “Find harmony within, then all things are possible.”
Fascinated by all aspects of human behavior, psychology nerd Martha Dunne discovered the phenomenon of Asperger’s Syndrome (now, High Functioning Autism) in her adult son and wrote “Wait, What Do You Mean?” to share the AAAs of autism advocacy – Awareness, Acceptance and Appreciation of those persons on the autism spectrum.
June Gillam writes the Hillary Broome crime novel series, inspired by her obsession with what makes ordinary people mad enough to kill. A native of the Central Valley, June lives cradled between California’s Coastal Range and the Sierra Nevada mountains.
In addition to teaching writing groups and editing the work of her fellow authors, Elk Grove’s Gini Grossenbacher loves traveling to the settings for her historical novels.
ML Hamilton has been teaching high school English and journalism in Central California for the last 30 years. Between teaching and writing, she spends her free time walking her three dogs, spending time with her granddaughter, and reading. She is also the president of NCPA.
Eileen Hook has been actively researching and portraying California pioneer women since 1980. Her study of Eliza Gregson’s life has taken her to England, Rhode Island, and along the California Trail to pre gold rush California. “Eliza’s Story” is the true story of a woman pioneer.
Bob Irelan’s commitment to writing began as a journalism major, and it grew steadily over the years. Following 10 years of reporting and editing, including stints at The Wall Street Journal and Nation’s Business magazine, he spent 32 years in public relations for a Fortune 500 family of companies.
Ronald Javor has written seven books for young readers about overcoming hurdles involving homelessness and other disabilities with help from family and friends. Ron is a retired attorney whose professional and post-retirement volunteering involve promoting safe and affordable housing and shelters.
We are a mother daughter team, co-authors and illustrators of I Love You More. Our little book was born out of the game we played to convey how infinitely vast our love for each other is. We hope our book brings you as much joy as creating it brought us. Everyone can use a little more love.
Frank Luna is an Emmy award-winning television director with over 30 years working in broadcast news. He currently lives with his wife in Sacramento, California and enjoys kayaking and cycling along with other outdoor activities in beautiful Northern California.
Ron’s writing began with grammar school themes. In high school it was newsletters. In college it was sports editor. Then 35 years as a fisheries biologist doing scientific writing provided the discipline to write six books in retirement.
Anne is the author of five novels; What Once Was Lost, the tale of an adopted woman’s search for her birth mother, and four novels in the Silver Shores Series, mysteries set against the backdrop of high-dollar horse shows on the west coast.
Jenifer E. Rowe has published numerous fiction and nonfiction pieces in magazines, newspapers and anthologies. Her novel Unexpected Findings earned Finalist distinction in the 2021 Next Generation Indie Book Awards. Madam Pantaloons: Gold Rush Pioneer is her newest juvenile nonfiction book.
Karen Sanders is the author of The Little Lemon that Leapt. She is a bookworm from way back, and proudly touts the fact that she became a published author at age 7, when Wee Wisdom Magazine printed one of her poems.
Lisa Schliff received a B.A. in Spanish from UCSB and an M.A. in English from San Francisco State University. She lives in Grass Valley, California with her husband and cat, and volunteers with numerous organizations. She is a life-long writer of stories and poems and an Adult Education instructor of ESL. She has two adult children, Adam and Rebecca.
Retired from a career as an attorney and law school professor, Tim Schooley writes historical fiction. His debut novel, The Wool Translator, was published in 2022. Tim’s second novel, based loosely on his employment many years ago as a clown with Ringling Bros., and Barnum & Bailey Circus, is due for release soon.
Mariah Clark Skewes (Mary Boyle) is new on the literary scene. A lifelong educator – Assistant Superintendent/Principal/Teacher – she celebrates unique individuals and optimism in whimsical picture books for littles: The Never Series & Quirky Grandma Jean; a middle school novel: Maddie’s in a Muddle; and an adult gift book: The ABC’s of Hope & Healing
Cheryl Anne Stapp is an award-winning writer-historian who has published six nonfiction books on California’s vibrant past; two published by the prestigious History Press. She facilitates the monthly Writer’s Network breakfast meetings for the California Writers Club, Sacramento
Her baby sister called her Nonie, her great-grandkids call her GumGum. Norma Jean Thornton is a multiple County and State Fair award-winning baker, candy-maker, and art-doodler.
Christine L. Villa is a children’s book author, poet, publisher, speaker, photographer, mixed media artist, and crafter. She is the founder of Purple Cotton Candy Arts, a business that offers publishing services such as editing, proofreading, illustrating, formatting, and book trailers.
Dänna Wilberg has written, produced, and directed multi-award- winning short films, produced and hosted two local TV shows, and lives life nothing short of a three-ring -circus. Aside from writing, her passion for her children, grandchildren, traveling the world, and karaoke take center stage.
Bernard Wozny is a new addition to the literary world bringing fresh ideas to challenge the mind in a clean, stimulating manner. American born, but British educated. His misspent youth evolved into a bachelor’s degree in electronics and computer engineering.
