One of the best ways to guarantee a good time at the California State Fair is by saving money. Check out the list below make the most of your money at the Fair.

1. Buy tickets early:

Buy tickets early on-line to save money.

This is winning even before you get to the Fair. If you buy tickets before July 8, the first day of the Fair, you can save $2 off of admission. The ride wristbands are also discounted anywhere from $2 – 7. For those of you 21 and over, tickets to the Best of California Brewfest are $5 off. Buy tickets here.

2. Go for a bundle:


This is helpful if you’re a family or going to attend the Fair multiple times. The Family Fun Pack is 4 daily admission tickets, 4 carnival or monorail rides, and a 1 day parking pass. Buying the Family Fun Pack is a 42% savings versus buying all those items individually.

If you’re planning to attend the California State Fair at least three times, consider buying a season pass. There are two options a regular State Fair Season pass and a Blue Ribbon Season Pass. The State Fair Season Pass is $29.99 and grants unlimited visits to the State Fair and Raging Waters. The Blue Ribbon Season Pass is only $39.99 and also grants unlimited visits to the State Fair and Raging Waters as well as unlimited monorail rides, a horse racing reserved seating area and a coupon book worth hundreds in savings and discounts.

3. Bring the kids on Tuesdays:


Free admission for children 12 and under, and $2 rides for all ages. Officially this is the Wells Fargo $2 Rides for all & Kids Free Tuesdays. Happens July 12 & 19

4. Plan to eat on Wednesdays & Thursdays:

Food & Drink

This is when $2 Taste of the Fair happens. From 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. sample a variety of fair foods with $2 menu specials from some of your favorite food vendors.

5. Check the calendar:


If you are a senior, military service member or veteran, or a first responder there are special savings days just for you.

Senior Savings Days happen every Friday (July 8, 15 & 22). Guests age 62 or better receive $8 admission and can ride FREE on the Grand Carousel and the Giant Wheel.

Military Appreciation Day is Thursday, July 14. Active, retired and reserve military personnel receive FREE admission all day (ID required).

First Responders Appreciation Day is Thursday, July 21. First responders and law enforcement receive FREE admission all day (ID required).

6. Buy a bottle and share the love:

The Save Mart Supermarkets Wine Country sells bottles of award-winning wine at reasonable prices. Find some friends and save off the cost of a single glass.

7. Sit back and listen to free music:


Enjoy the free Toyota Concert Series on the Golden 1 Stage. The performance is included in the price of a Fair admission ticket. Line up at 5 p.m. at the back of the concert seating area and get a wristband for a free seat. Some shows offer the option of reserved seating for an additional cost. 8. Read…a lot:


Through the Read to Ride program, your child can get free rides in the Carnival at the California State Fair. Download the Read to Ride program form and for every two books your child reads and summarizes, they’ll receive two free rides. Click here for more information.

9. Follow your nose to the cooking theatre:

Sample the bounty of California. Enjoy free samples in the Save Mart Supermarkets California’s Kitchen exhibit area including delicious fruits and veggies, olive oil, honey or one of the tasty treats being prepared at the cooking theatre.

10. Stroll through the forest:

Take a tour of the California Forest Center and get a free tree seedling. With some care and time, one day, you’ll have free shade from the tree you planted.
