A familiar fair icon is saying “Goodbye.” The Big Yellow Slide, found near the Coca-Cola Main Food Promenade during the California State Fair, will not be there this summer to make room for more shaded seating in that area.
Deconstruction of the slide began in early June, and took six days to complete. Click the image below to see a time lapse of the slide being removed.
Here is a more traditional video of the slide being taken down.
The once-occupied space will be used to expand the Coca-Cola Food Promenade with extra seating; ensuring extra comfort for Fair guests. This is also where the SMUD Promenade Stage is set up for daily performances. The additional shade and seating will be a nice relief for Fairgoers during the summer heat.
Fairgoers wanting a downhill thrill do not need to fret. A giant slide will be set up in the Main Carnival for riders to slide down. Ride wristbands are available for purchase at castatefair.org/tickets.
