Big News! I, Grace Becker, just turned 21! Now you may not care about my recent age milestone because you don’t know me, hence it’s unlikely that you’d be as excited as I am. Unless you’re just a really nice person, in which case, big ups for you pal. Regardless of your excitement level I have great news. Luckily for you, now that I’ve made my 21st trip around the sun (or something like that), I can enlighten you on a brand new exhibit at the California State Fair called Farm to Glass. This exhibit, adorned with strings of groovy twinkly lights, is located adjacent to the shaded Save Mart Wine Garden and educates Fair-goers on how their favorite beer, wine, whiskey, and spirits are made. Now I have your attention, don’t I? See, I knew you’d be excited about my bday eventually.
This exhibit is actually one of my favorites at the Fair. Aside from the inviting atmosphere, if you’re interested in alcohol on any level, you’ll benefit from checking out this exhibit. I wandered in there not knowing what to expected and hopped (hahah get it) out with a noggin full of knowledge. Farm to Glass highlights the processes involved in producing everyone’s favorite bevs including brandy, rum, tequila and congac, to name a few. Fair-goers will be informed about the plants, grains, and quantities necessary to produce these dranks. You may be surprised about some of the info you learn! Are you a fan of icy beverages? You know what I’m talking about, Icees, Slurpees, Slushies you name it! Basically any drink that leaves you with an impending brain freeze. Now, I don’t know if you’ve heard the word on the street, but here it is: wine slushies. Wine slushies are exactly what they sound like, a refreshing icy libation infused with delicious wine. They’re essentially the adult version of all the icy beverages previously mentioned. These slushies come in three flavors: Wild Vines Blackberry, Wild Vines Strawberry, and Madria Sangria Moscato. Plus, if you weren’t already aware, the Save Mart Wine Garden now houses a new and larger Wine Slushie Bar where you can purchase these Fair favorites. But be sure to have your photo I.D. ready… You heard me, teens!
For those with a more sophisticated palate (no offense wine slushie fans, I’m with you), Save Mart Wine Garden offers California’s BEST award winning wines for tasting. A different wine from the California State Fair Commercial Wine Competition is featured each day, so you now have a legitimate excuse to frequent this spot for the entire duration of the Fair. Once you’ve had a taste of these award winning wines, full bottles are available for purchase. Plus, since this area is shaded it serves as the perfect place to relax and cool off when it gets a little toasty. I’m sure those of you who weren’t previously enthused about my birthday are currently undergoing a change of heart. That’s what we call character development. You should be proud. I’ll be expecting heaps of birthday cards and wishes after all of the useful information I’ve shared with you. Both Farm to Glass and the Save Mart Wine Garden are from 11:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 10:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. Friday through Sunday, so it’s hard to miss. Maybe I’ll see you there and we can cheers our wine slushies!
